  • Power Corruption?

March was the longest month for me. It was a month full of realization, disappointments and a few shenanigans. I am just glad it was over and i am now leaving it as part of my past experiences and learning. Now, this inspires me to write this new article and I know it will help me move on to my new job.

Politics always exists in any organization; it has not changed much over the years and probably will not change any more in the years to come. It is usually reflected by a person who guides through handling and use of authority under various environments which is without any doubt apparent during the acts of decision making, setting agenda and interaction with others to set in motion support, inspire teams and individuals and recognize people. Leaders can to a great extent extinguished political climate having negative impact on the people attitudes and organization outcomes by aligning individual needs with goals, in such a way that fulfillment of collective objectives results in automatic achievement of individual needs also. It must be realize that administrative politics is a function of value of trust in a group, which is built through practice of fairness and transparency. Fair play, justice and transparency in procedures and processes is key in creating an environment where organizational politics take back seat and a progressive culture is established and gives height to any purpose by voluntary involvement of individuals. In other words, leaders must encourage people and bank on them to take team to a higher plane of accomplishment by creating a place of trust and empowerment. It is through such good examples that leaders create leaders at all levels which are in fact the extension of their own personality. The principle of those who leads thus becomes a way of life for any organization. Which will make a distinction of a winning leader from the rest.

    Deja Brew!

Posted By on March 4, 2011

Calm and relax, this is what I always feel every time I sip coffee before going to work. It has been part of my daily routine. A cup of it prepares me for another stressful day may it be the less expensive nescafe 3 in 1 or the costly Starbucks bean hot beverage. I feel more productive and remember things better, an elixir of life for me.

The word “coffee” was introduced in 1598 thru Dutch koffie. This concept was authored by Turkish kahve, the Turkish articulation Arabic qahwa, a truncation of qahhwat al-bun or wine of the bean. One possible origin of the name is the Kingdom of Kaffa in Ethiopia, where the first known discovery of the berries took place. Legend of goat herder Kaldi of Ethiopia who notices goats are friskier after eating red berries of a local shrub. Experiments with the berries himself and begins to feel happier.

“Luwak coffee” which comes from Indonesia is the most expensive coffee in the world and cost around $100 to $160 dollar per pound. Interesting! This kind is produced from beans that have eaten and passed the digestive system of animals called mongoose (civet). You may find it disgusting but this holds a degree as the most expensive and most sought after drink in the world.

By reading a lot of articles about coffee online, I was impressed on how it can work wonders for our health at the same time got scared by its negative side effects. I have been drinking coffee all my life and always have been satisfied with its effect on me. For me, anything in the world has its own yin and yang, so drinking small amounts is what makes it advantageous to my health. And the key is always moderation in order to taste the joys of life in abundance. Let’s drink to that!

    The big BANGS!

Posted By on March 3, 2011

“Bangs” cut have been with us for years, always changing characteristic and style. No matter what shape chosen, they have constantly been popular all around the world. Simply labeled as face framing hair work down or across the forehead, bangs got its name from bang-tail, a term used for the practice of cutting horses’ tail straight across and the idea of being sudden or abrupt, like a sudden explosion of a few inches of hair.

Blessed with a forehead as big as the runway of an airport (LOL!), this cut will always be in season for me. I cut my own fringe, blunt. This helps balance my large forehead and soften my facial features including my pointy prominent chin. There are many trim styles you can choose from…

…you can have it sideswept, like Bleu..

… or “the Justin Bieber look” …

    …. Or Cha style!

I cut my two angels front hair in “U” shape above their brows or commonly known as the pin-up cut. Made famous by Bettie Page and is now worn by many pin-up girls.

Whichever way you want to wear it just make sure that it matches the shape of your face. Always keep in mind to note your unique features like your nose, cheekbones, or jaw line. You can then make a determination to hide or accent these features with a “bangs”. The real trick is to pick hairstyles that enhance your best features while camouflaging any flaws.

    Don’t agonize. ORGANIZE!

Posted By on February 23, 2011

With my five kids and husband bringing his paperwork’s at home this makes the house a little bit cluttered. Because of this we have been finding ways and solution so he does not end up leaving his files and papers out in the open when anyone can access confidential information. Good thing is we have found a better solution by buying a locker for his items. We bought ours online from lockers.com. The beauty of it is that the company offers a lot of variety and colors so we did not have a hard time finding a place to position it.

The Double Tier ‘S’ Style Wood Grain Designer is one of my favorite because it matches the interior wood design of the house. Its durable and the heavy duty hinges really fit my 3 hyper boys. It’s where my kids put their bags and books after school which really helps me organized their things and keep the house clean.

In order to work out the kinks organizing is important and it isn’t rocket science–indeed, it’s not really a science at all, but somewhat more of an art. With an insight of the fundamentals of the arranging process, many people find it relatively easy to get and stay systematized. Selecting smart storage materials and spots for things in your home or office is an important step in creating a system that will work for you long-term. There are a lot of lockers for sale that you can choose from. You just have to take the time to ask yourself these questions when establishing storage to be sure you pick are elegant, durable and useful.

    My Locker Buddy, Ed!

Posted By on February 22, 2011

My friend Ed, who has been my locker partner for two years is leaving for Norway. Sigh! That means I need to look for another comrade. The company has provided employee lockers for us to keep our  office clutter free and organize. We are also not allowed to bring any electronic gadgets inside so we have to leave it inside our metal lockers.  And since there are a thousand of us, then we have to share it with someone else. I am lucky with Ed because  I never had any complaints or problem  dividing the compartment with him.

Sharing space with other people may be exciting but for others it can be stressful. We like our own space- even if were not in it for much of the time.   You will not just be allocating an area but your secrets as well. Even if you don’t know  that person but you would have a clue by just looking at his things. Which only means  that I really have to find someone I can trust. I’ll be crossing my fingers on that. J But Ed told me that he will be giving his keys to Dennis, one of our batch mate and a friend as well, so no need to worry then.

Bon voyage to you Ed! I am really glad that finally you are about to begin living your dream independently. As you set sail on your much-awaited journey, I wish you a happy and safe travel. Please take with you my love and prayers that all will be well with you. May God be always at your side leading and guarding you from harm.  May you instill in your mind all the words of wisdom that your father and mother had taught you.

    New Chums

Posted By on February 18, 2011

It’s really weird how blogging developed something in me which I never thought I had. I never envisioned myself to have this many ideas that would all of a sudden come popping out my mind. I am seeing things in a different way now, and it’s more detailed. My only problem is when I try to start writing them in front of my pc those ideas were gone. And I am sure I am not the only one with this dilemma. Because for most of us, creative and inspirational moments come at random, unpredictable, and often totally inconvenient times. There’s no rhyme or reason to it, and that great idea could strike at any moment.

I am glad I was introduced to these two elements which I now considered as my best buddy, my mini pad and pen. Through them I was able to accomplish many articles anywhere —  on a restaurant, while waiting for the food to be serve, inside a cab on my way home, before a meeting starts or when I am waiting for someone. I do have a netbook but it take time to boot up, a precious time when memory can become an endangered species.

The best part of having both of them with me, all the time, is being able to review and see my progress. Seeing the changes in my style, language, and creativity is enough push for me to keep writing day after day. I am really pleased with the betterment I’m seeing. Every now and then, I’m shocked with, “I wrote that?” Those are warm gloss all writer’s need, including me.

    When TRUST falls

Posted By on February 18, 2011

A lot has been going on in the office today. I can feel uncertainty and I am sure I am not the only one with this feeling. A lot of “Whys?” have been flying around waiting for answers. When we’re talking about preparation for what is to come, we are always dealing with changeableness. But how do we anticipate if we are confused by the future of our job. I tried minimizing doubt by learning more about it and tried asking questions from sources but it only frustrates me more. I believe that the answer to employees clamor is just transparency by the management.

Tell the truth. Integrity does not exist in counterbalance; it is an effective practice that begins with being straight with people. Employees deserve to know the facts and managers must make time to deliver it and do it as honestly as they can. This is not for their own advantage, but also for the benefit of the team. There is an old maxim that character is what you do when no one is looking. We can possibly advertise that saying and remodel it to modern management: “so character then is managing without anyone around.” Actually, there is such a phrase for this: transparent leadership, the act of putting the needs and concerns of people first so the whole organization prospers. That ideal is often not possible, but it is something good to strive for. Because when it does occur, no one ever asks, “What were they thinking?” Absolutely!

    How WE see the world

Posted By on February 16, 2011

A friend told me that a bloggers need to write something about anything will mostly like lead to low latent inhibition. I just smiled at him because honestly I don’t really know what that means. When I arrived home I went ahead and inquired about it through everyone’s best friend when it comes to searching, google. If you are a fan of Prison Break you would have an idea because the main character suffers from it.

A teacher who studied mental and emotional constitution of University of Toronto, Jordan Peterson, and   his associates have brought to light that decreased latent inhibition of environmental stimuli arises to equate with greater creativity among human beings with great intellect.  They have speculated that this may be useful or more of an advantage when integrated with high intelligence and excellent working memory – the capacity to think about many things at once – but negative otherwise. This builds the interconnection separating madness and creativity which the way I understand means that unintelligent people with low latent inhibition end up mentally ill like psycho, while the brainy ones become creative geniuses. Whoa!

Now, I understand why Chyben associated it with weblogger. An ordinary person may categorize an object, and then forgets about it, even though it is much more abstract and interesting than he or she thinks. A blogger by contrast, is always open to new possibilities. Thinking on an object differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective and to look further and to try not thinking of the obvious things, but to try thinking beyond them.

Please be careful with my HEART

Posted By on February 14, 2011

This article has been in my draft bin since Saturday. Just don’t have the time to finalize it because I really got busy with work and family. V-day is finally here and I can see its traces on the quotes posted in the hallway of our office. Here are a few of them I have collated out of the thousand sayings that talk about the heart and how it beats for the one we love.

A memory is a photograph taken by the heart to make a special moment last forever….Unknown.

Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely….Land Before Time.

Sometimes someone says something really small, and it just fits right into this empty place in your heart….My So-Called Life.

You may hold my hand for a while, but you hold my heart forever….Unknown.

The heart in pursuit of oneness will find the most inexplicable beauty….Unknown.

A part of you has grown in me. And so you see, it’s you and me together forever and never apart, maybe in distance, but never in heart….Brooke Zuroweste.

As I was waiting for the elevator, I saw one poster that talks about the blood pumping unit that supplies oxygen and blood to the whole part of the body. Oppositely, people around me took less notice to it. Albeit a heart is an emblem of love, it’s also a vital channel needed by every person to survive — an organ most heart-healthy people take for granted.

Eating, drinking and merry-making were what most of us did during Valentine Day. Many of the compelling favorites during this day include truckloads of sugar, fat and salt. Unknowing that excessive to any of these in our food could lead to the alleged lifestyle morbidity. For more than twenty years now, diseases of the heart persist to be the pilot of death among people all over the world. Cardiovascular diseases refer to ailment of the heart and blood vessels due to hardening of the arteries and medical attention is required at once if warning signs are experienced by an individual. Its symptom can be diverse basing on which area of the ‘cardiovascular system’ is affected. If the involvement is the coronary arteries which are the blood vessels that supply the heart, these can lead to angina or chest pain. The chest pain is typically precipitated by effort, physical or emotional stress and may radiate to the left arm or jaw. If the involvements are the arteries of the lower extremities, it may be apparent as pain on walking at a certain distance or speed.

But this attack does not happen overnight as particular risk behaviors leads to it. And following our hearty celebration, I hope we are also reminded that an unhealthy diet is one of the most important determinants along with physical inactivity and smoking. Concurrently, other controllable risk factors include hypertension, diabetes mellitus and obesity. Both genders are prone to developing it. Post-menopausal women are similarly susceptible when the protective effect of estrogen is lost. Alarmingly, many young patients in their 30s or younger also develop CVD due to changing lifestyle, diet and the increasing prevalence of risk factors earlier mentioned.

I hope everyone is taking this day literally a heart day, a time to examine and remember how we treat this source of life organ for the past year. We can start bringing about simple, achievable and practical actions to get it back in shape. Stop smoking, occupy oneself in bodily actions for at least 30 minutes most days of the week, keep an fitting body weight, boosting our consumption of fruits and vegetables, and cut off on salty, fatty and sweet food. And as we return to the regular corporate grind, we can aim to take charge of our work in a way that we will be productive and happy instead of being all stressed out. We are as well urged to regularly follow up with our doctors so that risk factors and response to treatment can be assessed and monitored. I am sure that all our discipline to take care of our heart will be very worth it. Moreover, our heart has never ceased doing its job since the time it started beating. It is about right to return the favor by taking good care of our heart.

    Roses are GREEN!

Posted By on February 13, 2011

While each flower has an extraordinary chronicle to tell, the rose stands alone in its bountiful history and color significance. Tremendously that we could not withstand giving it less special attention and giving a separate space to its rich metaphor, especially in this season of love. It is  the perfect love symbol because it depicts all things sensual, hallowed, genuine and sentimental. In old Greece and Rome it was said to flourish from the blood of Adonis  and was divine to Aphrodite as it served as her badge of beauty. In the Western beliefs it is a symbol of passion, desire, voluptuousness, and physical perfection as well as eternal life and resurrection.

Each rich colored petal of a rose has its own language and essence. But amongst it all, one variety has really captured my attention. Maybe because it’s uncommon; ‘novelty’ should i describe it. Yes, and that is the green colored rose.  Its origin has always been a mystery and the web has less to say about it. Searching more I have discovered its unique nature. Usually, the bright colors and elegant forms of roses announce their blossom, almost demanding that one “take time to smell the flowers.” But Rosa chinensis ‘Viridiflora’ camouflages itself, hiding its flowers like a chameleon, green flowers among green leaves. And you will never take notice of it unless you bruise the sepals and descry its peppery scent. For a rose, I must admit, that’s a one-of-a-kind trait. That explains its aversion. This flower will add beauty to any arrangements. The Green rose plant’s continuous bloom and nicely rounded shape will make it a talking point in the rose garden with its new leaves that are tinged red. The mature foliage is the same bright green as the sepals on the lower portion of the flower which is also resistant to all major rose disease.

As the precept goes “A rose has a distinct place in a woman’s heart”, so what does it have that compels many to this astounding enchantment. Is it the many shades that express different emotions or the sole aroma some varieties proudly breathe? No matter what the reason is, I’d go for the one that represents exceptional trait. A flower that symbolizes true and eternal love, enduring all adversities,  just like a GREEN ROSE.
